The Jenkin Family

The Jenkin Family had a long association with Cadia. John Jenkin, like Josiah Holman, was born in Gwennap, Cornwall. He arrived in New South Wales with his family on the “Harbinger” in 1849. The miners soon developed networks of friends and colleagues in the district. Marriages also created extended families. When the mine closed in 1868, they could draw upon these contacts and relationships to smooth the way to finding other work and sustenance, if necessary (French Collection).
